300 bankruptcy cases have been registered in Ireland so far this year, this is more than 8 times higher than the figure seen in all of 2011

An average of almost 8 bankruptcy cases per week have been registered in Ireland between 1st January and 19th September 2014 - this compares to just 35 cases in all of 2011 which highlights the impact of the new legislation.

Dublin recorded the highest number of bankruptcies this year with 26% (77), followed by Kildare with 11% (32), Cork at 9% (28) and Wicklow with 7% (22).

This year has also seen a 12% increase in company start-ups when compared to the same period in 2013. 12,890 new companies have been formed this year with 25% of them operating in the professional services sector. The construction and real estate sectors experienced 36% and 38% increases in start-ups this year compared to last.
